| Digital CAD: the backbone 3-matic, like all Materialise software, is driven by ground-breaking digital CAD technology. The term "digital CAD" is a deliberate analogy with the world of electronics. Unlike most CAD software, where NURBS representations of surfaces describe the volumes, 3-matic uses a single entity (a triangle) to describe all geometries. Just like in digital electronics, where pulses are used to describe analogue signals, 3-matic works with a discrete representation, which enables easier storage, calculations and automation. 3-matic employs a hybrid modeller with solid modelling capabilities as well as surface modelling functions. Both are based on Materialise's digital CAD kernel. |

3-matic is the ideal software for creating tunnels and "V" Grooves™ directly in STL files for use in the RP Tempering™ process. Instead of going back to CAD, RP Engineers can quickly and easily modify STL files to include the geometries necessary for RP Tempering. |

A "V" Groove created in an STL file. "V" Grooves take the place of tunnels when geometry is too thin to accomodate tunnels of the required diameter. They are filled with RP Tempring compound then sprayed with Proto-Plasma-Rx™. This gives approximately 80% of the properties of tunneling and filling with RP Tempering compound. A "V" Groove can also be used when a living hinge is required. 3-matic can easily create "V" Grooves in any STL file whether flat or more complex freeform geometry. |
