The entire laser head sits on the SLA's precision optics table, thus the old optics "periscope" is no longer used. This reduces power losses through the system.

The laser power supply can be located inside the SLA500 chassis or placed outside for easy access to the controls. This allows the user to quickly adjust current, rep rate etc. to manually vary the output power if desired. (An available upgrade enables full power control via the SL system software).

Remote control of the laser is effected through an interface box that allows the SL software to control the laser system.

The old SLA500 focusing optics are replaced by a custom-designed beam expander which is capable of focusing the beam down to 0.008" at the vat. The beam can be set at the user's chosen diameter - anywhere from 0.008" to 0.012".

The laser system has a lifetime of ~10,000hrs and maintains a power output of over 350mW for the duration of that lifetime at 355nm and a user configurable repetition rate (typically 75kHz) .
